Are You Up For It?

Do you bound out of bed raring to go? Or do you hear yourself say: “I got out of bed on the wrong side”

Immediately Stop Worry from Dragging Your Performance Down…

Get your body in an energised state before you worry further about a demanding decision. When you get your heart pumping and your blood flowing, you become more optimistic, confident and creative.

Before taking on any problem, make sure your body is energised first.

Norman Douglas said: “How hard it is, sometimes, to trust the evidence of one’s senses….how reluctantly the mind consents to reality.” Thank you Norman!

Millions of people started today “hoping” for motivation to get them through the week. They woke up waiting for some external force to inspire and light a fire under them so they could make it through the day. Not an exciting way to begin the week, do you agree?

Here are 4 Taylor-Made Tips that I focus on achieving to energise me for the week ahead:

1. On Monday morning I always begin a little earlier and get in a quick workout, even if it’s just a 15 minute walk or short swim. I love to start the week with my early morning swim workout. It really blows the cobwebs out from the weekend. It wakes up your brain and gets those endorphins flowing. You will burn more fat, feel GREAT and it is good to get it out of the way so you’re free to move on to other things.

2. Eat a healthy breakfast. Regardless of what you have eaten or drunk over the weekend this will provide you with the fuel to tackle your top priorities. (Planning your week in advance means planning your meals in advance if you want to be super productive, energised and stay away from fast foods, which are a huge energy drain). What you put into your mouth has a direct effect on your productivity, efficiency and mental clarity.

9. Listen to one hour of an empowering audio program while you’re working out and eating breakfast. This will help you with the mental motivation and get you going with the right attitude. For Club members I highly recommend you download Shelley’s 69 favourite Taylor-Made Motivations or review one of any of the Go-for-Gold Blogs which are available to non-members at the Think Like A Champion Club.

10. At the end of each day and the end of each week, review what you did or didn’t do. Make adjustments where necessary and keep building on your strengths and celebrating your successes. Have fun and remember that small improvements add up over time. Imagine how much more clarity, motivation and achievement you will experience after growing and improving consistently for 52 weeks!

Momentum breeds momentum.

Unleashing these powerful strategies will condition you to seize the day every day. You will condition yourself to know where you are going, get moving and you will have all the energy to drive you through your week.

Today’s Champion Action:

1. It is Monday so what difficult task or decision do you have in front of you today?

2. Are you willing to get your body energised before taking on a difficult task, and then observe the difference?

3. What activities do you choose to get you energised right now?

Achieve Greater Success Today. Dead stop the FEAR of success… the FEAR of failure… the FEAR of the future. Take SMARTER actions more consistently and you will achieve Peak Peformance and Think Like A Champion to achieve the SUCCESS you desire… a great deal sooner.

Now get out there…and get on with enjoying your Monday!

Go for Gold…it’s your birthright to succeed.

Maintain a Positive Expectation for Every Action You Take…
Don’t Worry — Be Happy?

Life is not determined by random events and circumstances, rather by the thoughts you think. By insisting on positive thoughts, you will continue on a course that will bring both success and happiness.

Negative emotions such as anger, frustration, resentment or disappointment are dams that restrict the flow of energy. Open the flood-gates. Let them go to make room for the positive.

I say confidently: I personally do not teach positive thinking. To me, by the time you think positive…. it is too late. It is important to understand that is not our thinking that creates our circumstances, but the emotion that is attached to our thoughts.

In pursing your dreams and achieving your goals you will discover there is a a scientific system to getting, obtaining, and creating precisely what you want… whether it be more money, better relationships, the job or career you have always dreamed of, or getting into shape…

My journey in becoming World Marathon Swimming Champion led to the discovery that “the secret” works with Swiss-clockwork precision, precisely because it is and always has been based upon the laws of physics as undeniable as the law of gravity…

Have you ever noticed…

* Whatever you hold in your mind with energy and focus becomes your reality … whether it be negative or positive, if you focus on it and give it emotional energy, it manifests itself in your life…

* If you have good thoughts or do good deeds towards others,
it sets in motion a chain reaction delivering good back to you … maybe not from the same person or at the same time, but probably when you need it the most…

* If there is something you struggle against… it just seems to come back to you in droves (rather than leaving)… In fact, the more you resist, the more you attract that which you don’t want…

These are all based upon the Law of Attraction… an immutable law as impersonal and indifferent to your “wishes” as the Law of Gravity…

Here is something else you may not realise, which is a fact based on universal Law of Cause and Effect which applies to everything in the universe including your actions:

For every cause there is an effect... not only that, but the effect is always multiplied. So not only will you experience what you cause yourself, or others, to experience, but it will come back to you, multiplied and increased.

In other words, if you help others to experience riches and happiness, it will come back to you and you will experience a multiplying of what you cause others to experience…

Whenever you’re in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.

Champion Action Today:

1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how positive is your attitude at this moment? _________________________________

2. Have your thoughts so far today been primarily negative or positive? And what is the emotion attached to them? _________________________________

3. What positive image or affirmation could you focus on right now to bring more success to your current ambitious endeavour? _________________________________

Day 2 - Mind Over Matter 50-day Challenge
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Do you set goals that come directly from your heart?

Are you on track for achieving your most important goals—or have you spent most of the year spinning your wheels—simply confusing effort with results?

Yes, this is a tough question. It’s supposed to be. Your time is running out.

The best question to ask at this time of the year is…How Clear are Your Goals?

When you set your goals in direct alignment with your MISSION, your goals are forged of fire and passion resulting in a white-hot commitment. If you don’t, they will lack the purpose and power necessary to shift your innerdrive into overdrive.

“Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.”
Napoleon Hill — 1883-1970, Author of Think and Grow Rich

Take at Least One Step Towards Accomplishing Each Goal — Daily…

Want It Simply Put?

Rule # 1: Set your goal.
Rule # 2: Make a plan.
Rule # 3: Follow through.

Every journey requires a posted destination, a planned path and purposeful movement.

Champion Action Today:

Take 10minutes today to review your goals, and confirm that they indeed will deliver what you value most. Your life is a terrible thing to waste on trivial pursuits.

1. What do you need to do next to act on your goal, get your goal going again? _________________________________

2. How often do you let external or intervening circumstances, rather than your goal, direct your course of action? _________________________________

3. What goal will you focus on following through today? _________________________________

4. What are the accomplishments for which you want to be most remembered?
_______________________________________________

5. What will you be most proud of, after today’s efforts are complete?
_______________________________________________

6. What’s your No.1 Goal right now? What will achieving it help you further achieve once you’ve attained it?

Continuously Monitor Your Energy Level to Your Current Performance…

Are You Keeping An Eye On Your Fuel Gauge?

As we head full throttle in the down hill to the finish line of 2009; are you watching your level of motivation and energy which as you know will fuel your success? For many of you, you still believe it is ok for you to stuff in as much as you can in your 24hr day much like you crammed for your end of year exams!

Am I right or am I right???

It’s easier to keep your energy level up than it is to start over from the bottom! Note low energy periods in your day. Head them off at the pass with proper stretching, exercise or nutritious snacks.

Boost your energy periodically throughout the day by doing energy-enhancing activities. It’s easier to move your energy from a “5″ to a “7″ than it is to start over from zero!

“I’ve always felt it was not up to anyone else to make me give my best.”~ Akeem Olajuwon

Today’s Champion Action:

1. On a scale of 1-10, what’s your personal energy level right now? _________________________________

2. When were you the least productive yesterday? How will you prevent it today? _________________________________

3. What high energy foods / snacks can help you get through the day so you have energy to burn when you head home to your family, to the gym or out to a networking function? __________________________________________________

4. Check today’s schedule - is it jam packed with no down time for YOU? Re-arrange and give yourself ME time to refuel, reenergise and recharge your batteries. eg. 5-10mins away from your desk, refill your water bottle, walk outside of the office to breathe some fresh air, go to your colleagues office and make that request instead of emailing.

_________________________________________________________________

Pursue Your Gold Standard of Excellence Today. What Champion habit will produce consistently greater results now. Incorporate your Golden standard and watch as you achieve peak performance and the success you desire… a great deal sooner.

Remember it is all Mind-Over-Matter….
and if you don’t quit….you will make it!

Cheers Shelley Taylor-Smith

I am excited to announce the launch of Mind Over Matter today.

I came up with the idea sitting alongside Marilyn Manson on the plane recently. Strange as it may sound…but stranger things have happened.

Reviewing 100’s of emails, the realisation hit me where I am frustrated with how so many people are blaming their life situations on why they are still not getting what they want in their life.

I personally believe that what we are getting in our life situation, is a direct result of our mindset and how we think not the other way around. This 50-day Challenge blog is aimed at showing you how some of your thought processes may be limiting your potential in all areas of your life.

I will share why I believe it is MIND OVER MATTER with regard to human psychology.

So to help ou in the countdown to 2010 we are doing a 50 Day Personal Development Challenge, where over the next 50 days each day I will send you an action or task via a blog or video.

The aim is to get you to spend a small amount of time everyday working on you. In today’s society it is so hard to find the time to put into our own development, that is why I have planned this 50 day challenge….so you are ready to dive in and go for YOUR gold in 2010!

“50 Days, 50 small tasks and 50 great results”
>> Have you had enough of wading through the c**p?
>> Would you like more excitement, fun, motivation & passion?
>> Are you frustrated in your career or your personal life?
>> Would you like more calm within yourself? Do you want to start the New Year fresh?

Join the “50 day Challenge” to create outcomes you desire for 2010.

For the time it takes to enjoy and drink your daily coffee/tea (10minutes), what are you waiting for?

Look out for day 1 on Tuesday 17th November for the Mind Over Matter 50-day challenge!

What’s Your Number One Today?
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Focus on Your Top Priorities — First…

What’s Your Number One “#1″ Today?
When you Focus On #1 First, you control the outcome of your day by determining in advance the most important and rewarding thing you will accomplish before the day is done.

Today I remember the anniversary of my victory in the Sydney Harbour 30km International Marathon Swim on 10th November 1991. It was my first race after my overall win in Atlantic City earlier in August when people said it was a fluke beating the Men’s World Champion. And after finishing first overall in Sydney Harbour I did not even realise what I had achieved for women in sport until my fellow competitors reminded me that I had overtaken the Men’s World Champ, Argentinian Diego Degano for the No. 1 World Ranking in the International Marathon Swimming Association World Series.

Dawn Fraser with Shelley, Manly Wharf 10/11/91

Dawn Fraser with Shelley, Manly Wharf 10/11/91

My focus was elsewhere that day with the Taylor-Made Team for Success. Dawn Fraser alongside me for the ride of her life in a scoodoo (yes it was a sight!) cheering me, yelling at me to pull my finger out. My husband, Peter Smith, overseeing my race plan knowing deep within himself that this win would change everything for us both personally and professionally. Graeme “Grub” Caroll, a local Manly-ite who assisted Peter with his superb knowledge and surf skills (who became my swim coach when I moved from Perth to Sydney in Jan ‘92). Funny when Peter had to tell Grub after he rocked up with a chair, book, umbrella, fishing rod and esky: “Mate! Not sure what you’re thinkin’ but you won’t be sitting down…believe me. So leave all that stuff behind. Let’s keep the esky…we’ll drink those beers after Shells wins.”

But my No. 1 Focus First on 10th November 1991 was with my New York Mom “Fran Schnarr” who was in her final days suffering with Lung Cancer. Nancy (Fran’s daughter) would normally be on my boat as my coach but her No.1 Focus First was by her Mom bedside.

So I re-directed my focus and all my energy on having fun, pure and simple. Enjoying what I love to do. Racing. Competing. Challenging myself. Pushing myself, Stretching myself out of my comfort zone knowing that today could be “the day” that Shelley Taylor-Smith learns something knew about herself and her character. And yes…Winning. I love to win. No matter where I place, as long as I had given 100%, prepared and planned to the best of my ability, left no stone unturned…then I had won. And that would make my New York Mom proud!

….And I let the Taylor-Made Success Team do what they do best..coach me, feed me, direct me, support me, encourage me and kick me in the pants if need be too. I am still amazed by what “WE” achieved that day. The Taylor-Made Success Team ROCKED!!!!!

Shelley & David O'Brien, 1st and 2nd, 10/11/91

Shelley & David O'Brien, Australia 1st and 2nd, 10/11/91

So as I stated in the beginning of this blog; when you Focus On #1 First, you control the outcome of your day by determining in advance the most important and rewarding thing you will accomplish before the day is done. Of course there are times when urgencies will need to be handled first.

However, before you start, identify and then schedule the earliest time possible to complete your #1 priority. My no.1 priority on that fateful day as is now an everyday habit is to be grateful for what I have and my commitment to do what I love passionately, patriotically and purposefully.

“The reality of life is that your perceptions — right or wrong — influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place.”~ Roger Birkman

Today’s Champion Action:

1. How far down your priority list are you so far today? _________________________________

2. What one thing will you get done today to advance your most important goal? ___________________________________________________________

3. What priority deserves all of your attention next? _________________________________

PS: …And 18yrs on I am still the only woman to hold a No.1 World Ranking for both men and women in the history of any sport worldwide (BBC TV 2002). Thanks Taylor-Made Success Team WE DID IT!!!

If you can’t make a decision about which way to go, call an expert. Use specialists to help discover and determine the best options for your plan this week.

Attitude is everything
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

On January 17, 1995, I hit the wall 8hrs into my solo swim from Sydney to Wollongong (I know what you’re thinking…what were you thinking Shelley?) Little did I know that I had 4hrs 30mins of swimming remaining!

The water had dropped from 21C to 12C. Imagine if you can swimming at the front of the cage with the ocean water dumping on top of my head every 5 seconds much like a bucket of cold water dumped on you in the shower. I had this humungus (Aussie lingo for huge) throbbing headache. Sharks had been circling. My fingers and toes were bruised and fractured from being picked by the velocity of the waves hitting the front and back of the cage.

I wanted out….normal behaviour I thought. I was stamping my feet like a child ’spitting the dummy’ as I repeated to my coach “I want a hot chocolate” “I want a hot shower!” “I want…I want” “I want out!”

Then came the most honest of all statements…“I have nothing to prove!”

My coach ‘Grub’ turned to me noticing my lips had turned blue and my back was shades of purple from the wind exposure; put two fingers up and said “How many fingers?”

I flashed back to Lac St Jean in Roberval, Quebec, Canada at the 1992 Pan Pacs 25km event when Grub asked that same question and I cannot remember my answer as I passed out unconscious from hypothermia and Grub saved me.

My moment of truth had come …way out there at sea thinking …hmmm if I say three…I can get out of this quick smart! I took the longest time contemplating should I or shouldn’t I. I replied “two” and Grub told me abruptly “put your head down and get going NOW!” I said “no!” to which Grub replied “Give me 20mins.”

I put my head down and said to myself
“If you don’t quit…you will make it!”
“If you don’t quit…you will make it!”
“If you don’t quit…you will make it!”

These 8 words are all I said over and over and over to myself in the 90km solo swim to Wollongong. 20 minutes turn to 40 minutes then 60 minutes and a pod of dolphins appeared out of no where which cheered me up. All of a sudden my stroke returned to normal and the water appeared to warm up.

Your attitude determines how well you will succeed when faced with a challenge. We did succeed that day when we made it to Wollongong Harbour in 12mins 28 mins and 30 secs.

Would you like to be able to instantly acquire a winner’s attitude?

Now is your time to discover how to control the one thing that means more to your accomplishments and happiness than anything else … Your Attitude!

Here is a simple positive Champion habit that will change your attitude in seconds!

Your Champion Action Today:

1. Choose or create a positive mental attitude trigger phrase and repeat it aloud many times each day. A habit trigger is an event, action, or thought that helps to reinforce your positive habits.

Your trigger phrases will help you to maintain a positive mental attitude. Choose or make up a positive phrase, such as..

” I know I can do it.”
” I can overcome any obstacle.”
” I am reaching my success goals every day.”
” I am getting stronger and stronger every day.”
” Every day I am getting closer and closer to my goals in life.”
” If I believe it.. I can achieve it.”
” Every day, my mental attitude is becoming more positive.”
” I am achieving my goal weight every day.”
” I am getting closer and closer to my goal of a trim and fit body.”

2. Write down your trigger phrase on Post-it notes; place them on the mirror of your car, on your bathroom mirror, carry the note in your pocket. Or as I did, place on the sun visor of the car, so when I needed an attitude check up, I’d flick the sun visor down and instantly know where I was going and how to get there!

3. Repeat the phrase many times every day, remember to say it with emotion, believe it with all your heart. Make it a habit to repeat this phrase at least 30 times a day. Start your day with it.

4. The more you repeat your trigger phrases, the greater their effect will be on your attitude. Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, replace it with your positive-attitude trigger phrase.

You will now be building success-oriented positive thought patterns. This Champion habit will help you achieve a positive mental winner’s attitude automatically.

Remember,attitude is everything!
and… if you don’t quit…you will make it!

Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Remain Constantly Connected to Your Mission…

Actions Speak Louder Than Words.

Always define each of your most important values in life as an action such as: “I will always act with integrity” OR “I will always speak positively.”

It’s time to let what matters most to you shine in all that you do.

“A test of what is real is that it is hard and rough. Joys are found in it, not pleasure. What is pleasant belongs to dreams.”~ Simone Weil

Your Champion Action:

1. Have you defined your values as actions yet?

2. Can the people around you tell what you value in life, simply by observing your actions?

3. What action statement could you promise about one of your values in life?

Final Word from Coach Shelley:
Achieve ALL Your Goals Sooner Today. Dead stop the FEAR of success… the FEAR of failure… the FEAR of the future. Take SMARTER actions more consistently.

Go for gold Champ….it is your birthright to achieve!
and remember: if you don’t quit…you will make it!
